This article is about a growing potential for mass timber to be used in sustainable building! While there a variety of different types of mass timber, it typically consists of large slabs of wood that have been glued together. This material is claimed to have the potential to “reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in the building sector, slash the waste, pollution, and costs associated with construction, and create a more physically, psychologically, and aesthetically healthy built environment.” However, a variety of environmental groups have advised it be used with caution, explaining that its use must also come with more sustainable forestry initiatives.
