Recently I’ve been learning about construction kits for children that promote physical computing. I think that the most renowned one is the old and good LEGO Mindstorms robotic kit. The heart of the kit – Programmable Brick – was designed at MIT Medial Lab in the research group led by Seymour Papert (who later became LEGO Professor of Learning Research). It is interesting to see how, almost 20 years later, it is still one of the best computational kit out there. For sure, there is one design principle which makes it so timeless – it is designed for designers!
