Christoph Niemann’s “Critical Mass”


The March 23rd, 2020 edition of the New Yorker magazine featured some rather epochal art, re: the current global situation. The magazine usually has covers that reflect world events from the week that the magazine covers, but usually they are more reflective of certain widespread themes, and not blaring metaphorical depictions of events. The cover has a certain je ne sais quoi to it which makes me uncomfortable, and I think the mark of effective art in certain situations can be that precisely.
