remixing and scratching

Last week I was reading about Scratch (scratch.mit.edu) and how this programming environment conveys the idea of remixing. Although it often raises copy rights concerns, repurposing and re-constructing some else’s work is a prevalent pedagogy across today’s makerspaces and DIY culture. Inspiration for MIT’s Scratch designers was Grandmaster Flash, an NYC-based deejay who originated rap music by the same notion of mixing and re-purposing other wirks, in a very creative way.
