This is yet another post about what I’ve been up to in the quarantine, but this time it is centered around one of my favorite shows of all time. I started watching Avatar: The Last Airbender when it first came to Nickelodeon in 2005. I was drawn in by the fantastical world the showrunners created and was amazed by the animation that moved so naturally for impossible physics. It was also my first introduction to an anime style of animation. The show seemed to build this bridge between the world of anime and mainstream animation that changed many perceptions of what people are willing to watch. The idea that many Americans won’t watch anime because it is in a foreign language or because they consider it “dorky” was demolished by this show. We have been watching a lot of the show, and I can tell you it is just as good now as it ever was. Its ability to incorporate themes that relate to both kids and adults is uncanny, so it makes sense that this show has remained one of the most widely beloved animated shows of all time. So I leave you with the awesome final battle of the show.
