aurahack – “be invisible, do crimes”

aurahack is an artist I’ve followed for a while on Twitter, and this piece of hers from June 2019 came to mind as we discussed abstract art.

aurahack

This piece was inspired by CV Dazzle, which created facial recognition camouflage through the use of makeup and styling, and shows the ways in which abstract art techniques can be used to combat growing methods of surveillance. The discordant colors and shapes of the characters’ hair, makeup, and clothes are meant to prevent facial recognition software from working, and also creates an incredibly striking image to a casual observer. It’s also a piece with a strong dynamic energy in the color palette and use of focus, and is a piece I keep coming back to months later.  Hope you all enjoy!
