New Orleans: More than crawfish and jazz

Since Mardi Gras is coming up, I decided to do this week’s post on the street art in New Orleans. I don’t think New Orleans is really known for its street art, but it should be. The streets in every neighborhood are covered in colorful depictions of local heroes and cultural phenoms like Allen Toussaint, Dr. John, and Lil Wayne. The art puts New Orleans’ cultural diversity on display, celebrating black musicians and leaders who helped better the city and the world. Not only are there beautiful murals, but there are quite a few interesting sculpture that can be seen, mostly downtown. Even Bansky put his mark on the city with graffiti art in remembrance of Hurricane Katrina. So if you’re ever in the city, it shouldn’t be hard to find some of the amazing art the town has to offer.
